so it seems that as of late, my favourite thing to do is pair a feminine dress with my leather gillet in the hope of create a more casual looking outfit, and so far, i'd like to think i'm winning with it. for years now i've been in search of a simple white summer dress, and i finally found it in oxford street's h&m sitting on a sale rail for just £7. the dress itself is nothing special, simply plain white with a textured material, however the off the shoulder fit gives it that element of femininity that i'm really into at the moment.

i wore this yesterday for a day out to sheffield, and through the day i drank pink hibiscus beer simply because we all know what a sloth's favourite treat is, right? well, if you don't know, a hibiscus flower is a sloth's favourite treat, comparable to how a human may feel when presented with cake. if that's not a good enough reason to try a new beer, what is?!

i decided top nip into primark for the first time in a while last week, and for the most part i was thoroughly disappointed. hey, primark! i know midi is in at the minute, but do you have to make every single desirable dress and skirt midi length? it just doesn't work out well for a short gal like myself! all hope wasn't lost however as i left the store with this 3d flower cami top (as well as the shed load of tights i intended to buy in the first place) - cute, isn't it?!

i wore this outfit on saturday night when i went out for a meal and to the cinema with a group of friends, and the clashing of the 3d flowers with the gingham skirt and leather jacket help to toughen the top up a little bit so i can wear it without feeling so much of a six year old girl! throwing in a black floral crown and my trusty chunky boots helped to further toughen the outfit up a little, and overall i felt pretty good rocking my 'florals'.

i was headed into town today with my mum, so before we left i took to the garden in the hope of getting a few more outfit photos than i managed yesterday, and ended up failing even harder than i had originally. hats off to you guys who frequently photograph your outfits outside, i just didn't have the patience to wait for the sun coming out after hiding behind the clouds for a few minutes, for it to then hide back behind them within the 10 seconds it takes for me to press the button and run and pose before the 10 second timer goes off! perhaps it'll be a little easier when we (hopefully) get clearer skies in the summer?

it's not often i wear my glasses as i'm currently fighting a (losing) battle against my diminishing eyesight, however they managed to sneak their way into today's post and the pesky light reflection is telling me to steer away from wearing them in future posts!

it's just occurred to me that the total cost of everything minus my boots in this outfit (glasses included) equates to less than the pair of boots did, and i must say that i'm pretty pleased about that fact! once again the charity shop strikes and i picked this red satin slip up for just 99p. it needed a little altering as i assume it was intended to be a size 16 strappy top, but after sewing the straps a little it was good to go and be worn as a dress. i find that it's fab on its own for nights out or layered up over various tops and shirts for a casual daytime look, and at 99p for such a versatile wardrobe piece you really can't grumble - take that topshop!

first things first: how fantastic is this top?! select is definitely my high street guilty pleasure shop because amongst what is normally a load of tat, they seem to have a couple of fantastic pieces, the spot being claimed this time by this top. on top of the occasional gem found within there, select is super cheap and offers a 15% student discount, meaning i walked away with this baby for a little over a tenner, and it's now definitely a favourite piece in my wardrobe. i never really got into the pastel trend that's been making its rounds around the world of fashion over the last few months, but perhaps this piece will be my baby step into it!

i'd been after a black pleather skirt for a while now as my primark one is more grey than black, and when miss selfridgde were offering bogof on sale items, i couldn't say no to picking this skirt up alongside a velvet top at £12 for them both - absolute bargain! after what i think has been a disappointing start to the year for high street fashion, i now think the bar's been raised.

punching in a dream

motel is a brand that i find myself constantly browsing the website of, but never actually buying anything from, and it all boils down to the fact that their full price items are just so bloody expensive, even with the constant 20% discount that they offer! the last time i bought a motel dress was back in the summer when they had a sale on, so i decided to have a nosey through their january sale to see if anything took my fancy and this little number caught my eye.

this dress was £20 in the sale, and after adding my additional 20% student discount onto the price, i walked away with it having only paid £16 which is a reasonable price for any dress, let alone one that had been previously priced at £45! the standard delivery service was superb and i had my dress within 2 days of ordering, so definitely no complaints on service from my end!

the dress is a tad on the large side, however i was so eager to throw it on that i didn't have the patience to send it back in exchange for a smaller size so threw a belt around the waist to pull it together a little and i think it did the trick. definitely a new wardrobe favourite!

i'd always loved how faux fur coats looked on others, but never thought they'd suit me because they're so bulky. when i spotted this in matalan and had a discount voucher, i thought what the hell and gave it a try and quickly found out that i did in fact love how i looked in it. as well as looking fab, it's the warmest, cosiest coat i've ever had the pleasure of owning, and as my mum put it, it's an item of clothing that i'll "hold onto for the rest of my life" because faux fur is seemingly forever coming in and out of fashion.

i was also pleasantly surprised to stumble across this skirt in select because a good 80% of the time, i'm totally unimpressed by what's stocked in there - it's generally just not my style! i've found a couple of decent pieces in there before, and if there's one advantage to shopping there, it's that everything's always dirt cheap - this skirt was only £8.50 with my student discount! from one extreme to the other, these boots set me back around £38 after discount, but they were worth every penny because they're just so pretty. i often wonder now how i once lived my life in flats as big, chunky heels are now a wardrobe must have for me, what with me being only 5'4!

three ways to wear: metallic skater skirt

when i saw this skirt on the missguided website for just £4.49 in the sale, my inner magpie went mad; i say my inner magpie because i've found out recently that i'm attracted to anything that sparkles/shines/glistens in any way, and this skirt was definitely not an exception to that rule. plus, it was dirt cheap and missguided were offering free next day delivery, so how could i not have ordered it?! upon placing a somewhat impulsive order and realising the next day that i'd not really considered how i'd actually wear the skirt, i had a think and composed three ways to wear the skirt, as you can see below.

way one: night out
teamed with a simple bodysuit with a girly neckline and a pair of heels, this works perfectly on a night out. it's a light outfit that'll keep you cool while in clubs, but will also make sure that all eyes are on you. i'm undecided as to whether that's actually a good thing or not, but i'm trying my best to not think about what others may think of my tin man like clothing choices and concentrate on the fact that i know i am 100% in love with this skirt.

way two: casual 
throw on a jumper and some tights and ta-da, you have a totally different outfit! i've worn this a couple of times into uni and for generally just mooching around doing my day to day activities and i find the sheer amount of black helps to 'tone done' the shine without the charm being lost (i think that's near impossible, anyway.)

way three: smart casual
i have this thing for referring to any outfit with a collar as 'smart' and i've no idea why - probably something to do with a lack of better words. i find this look to be similar to the previous one but a tad smarter; not smart in the sense of i'd turn up to an interview in it (however i'm sure if i did i wouldn't be forgotten,) but in the sense that it looks a little less thrown together than the previous look - what is it about a button up shirt that does that?! add a statement necklace and you're ready to go!

since purchasing this skirt i've noticed a few metallic items of clothing popping up on the high street, primark in particular are selling a similar skirt in more of a bronze colour, and it's got me wondering if it's a trend that'll take off and i'll be able to leave the house without feeling as though i'm battling against a wave of judging looks - time will tell!

little pink dress

i first stumbled upon this dress on asos in black, and just before i added it to my cart i noticed there was another colour option, so i asked myself the question: do i really need another little black dress? and in that moment, i did something really daring and bought a bright pink dress... ok, it was daring for me.

i'm pleased i went for the pink, the colour's really pretty and i feel instantly girly and feminine when i slip it on, although i do like to dress it down a little with my hat so i still feel a little like myself when wearing it. i wore this dress for my first night out during freshers and it couldn't have been a more appropriate choice, what with me being stuck in a sweaty room full of giddy drunken first years (ah, god bless 'em.) the fact that this dress is rather lightweight and there's, erm, not very much to it, means that it's a good choice for when you know you're going to be pretty warm all night.
